Our Story

In many ways, our story begins with John Cheetham, our third great-grandfather, whose hatting emporium in Hyde, Greater Manchester, supplied beautiful hats worldwide. Cheetham’s Hats continued to trade until the 1950s when cultural changes in hat-wearing forced our family to close the business. But if that connection feels a bit too tenuous, don't worry! We're just as proud of our most recent heritage.

1999

Fast forward to 1999, and the Cheethams were back in action. Equine Innovations, a horse rug manufacturer and rider clothing supplier, was founded by one of our co-founders, Jenny. With a passion for equestrian excellence and a keen eye for quality, Jenny spearheaded this venture straight after leaving university.

2006

As the business grew, it became apparent that the customer base for Equine Innovations had a strong preference for country-focused lifestyle attire. Jenny, her husband Richard, and her brother Andrew seized this opportunity. As more brands began to join, Country Attire was born.

2018

During the next 12 years, much more than just a business was built. Country Attire became a family, a place that felt like home to so many. It set the bar for premium fashion, creating a legacy that resonated with both customers and the industry. The sense of community and excellence cultivated during this time has left an indelible mark, making Country Attire a true benchmark in the world of fashion.

2024

And so, to the present moment. This might explain why we seem a bit familiar. It's fair to say we've been quite busy since our last interaction, meticulously crafting our latest and most exciting venture yet. British Attire stands as a true bastion of the British attitude to style, and we’re here to stay.
