Ryan Mallinson

Founder, craftsman, textile obsessive and champion of the dying art of make-do-and-mend, Ryan is the man behind Mallin & Son, the West Yorkshire brand built on re-waxing and repairing wax jackets.

The Mallinson name goes back to the early 1900s, when much of the family earned their living in the Yorkshire mills as cloth dressers. Ryan reignited that textile heritage in 2019, shortly after the birth of his son Edward, working from a kitchen table in Ossett with little more than a knack for bringing tired jackets back to life. What started with friends, then a handful of independent customers, soon became a global authority on the subject, servicing high-end pieces from Barbour, Belstaff, Burberry and everything in between for customers around the world.

Leading manufacturers came on board as partners, premises followed in his hometown of Ossett, Wakefield, and the press, television, celebrity clients and a sizeable social following arrived not long after. Through all of it the ethos has stayed the same: invest in quality, look after it, and buy it once. It is a quiet stand against the fashion industry's throwaway habits, and a belief that the skills lost when a generation was funnelled towards desk work are worth saving, starting at home with the next one.
